Aberdeen Rugby Club, which is ten years old this year, is celebrating its anniversary in fine style this season. The first team, who won the Wellman Harmse league last year, are unbeaten in the league so far this season.

On May 4th the club’s two teams played against Steytlerville United at the Aberdeen Showgrounds.

The first reserves won for the first time this season with a 22-7 margin. Centre T Williams scored two tries, and wing S Lamont one try. Two penalties and one conversion were credited to scrum half R Skaarnek.

The first team ran rings around the opposition, and were on top from the first minute of the game. They scored ten tries to trounce Steytlerville United by a massive fifty two points to the visiors’ three, which came from a solitary penalty from centre D Killian.

Aberdeen’s tries were scored by centre Reagan Minnaar , wing Ridean Africa, fly half Arlen Jantjies (captain), and flank Jean Blou (vice captain), all of whom scored twice. Flank C Hemley and utility back CD Marais, who came on in the second half, crossed the line once each, and utility back Shaun Witt scored one conversion.

There was a large and enthusiastic crowd, who were treated to a feast of running rugby on this cold but clear day. Next Saturday the teams will be playing away against Jansenville United.
