Jean-Heinrich Pieterse from Aberdeen has recently successfully completed a training course in Johannesburg and is now a qualified field officer.
Pieterse started working for the SPCA in July 2016 as a general worker, cleaning kennels, but his passion for the animals, eagerness to learn and friendly manner saw him transfer to work at reception after two months. At the beginning of last year he started work as a trainee field officer, and he gained much practical experience. His dedication and commitment led to him attending the week-long course in Johannesburg in April this year, where he covered assorted topics including working with domestic and farm animals, wildlife, humane slaughtering, and education.
A quiet person, Pieterse has always been an animal-lover, and really enjoys working with animals and their owners. He chose to work for the SPCA because his main concern is to prevent cruelty to animals, and felt that in this filed, he could make a difference.
He is very grateful to the Graaff-Reinet SPCA members and committee members who put their trust in him, and is looking forward to working with the community to improve animal welfare.
