Aberdeen Rugby Club is hosting the Cape Town Warriors on Friday and Saturday, and there will be a feast of games for spectators at the Showgrounds on both days.
Local primary schools will also be involved, with a coaching clinic for school players at the showgrounds on Friday morning from 9am. This will be the Cape Town team’s way of giving something to the community, and there is already great enthusiasm from the schools involved.
On Friday afternoon, the first match will be between Kamdeboo Primary School and Aberdeen Full Service School, followed by Aberdeen Secondary School against Aberdeen Rugby Club’s B team. The afternoon will finish off on a lighter note, with ladies’ and men’s sevens games.
There is a full afternoon’s play on Saturday, kicking off with Aberdeen’s first reserves against the Cape Town first reserves. Next it is the turn of the “old men” –with Aberdeen Veterans playing Hampshire Veterans from Graaff-Reinet. The climax to the weekend, when the A teams meet, will be at 4pm.
Spectators are very welcome at all the games, with a nominal charge of R10 for adults, R5 for children, and R5 per car. The Aberdeen Rugby Club is very grateful to all those who have sponsored the tournament –too many to mention individually, but very much appreciated by all.
