Community and facilities

For a small town, Aberdeen is blessed with many facilities that are the envy of those in larger places. We have a well-stocked modern library, with free internet access – a boon to local school children and adults alike. Visitors are most welcome to make use of the library.

We have a large and efficient police force, who are responsible for both the town and surrounding farming district.

A comfort for many is the presence of Aalwynhof Old Age Home, which provides excellent care for those no longer able to look after themselves. A small hospital which offers outstanding levels of basic care is situated on the outskirts of the town. There is an excellent private doctor available in the town, but the nearest dentists are in Graaff-Reinet.

Our animals are not forgotten, with well-run boarding kennels available, as well as dedicated workers with CARE and the Karoo Animal Protection Society. Full veterinary services are available in Graaff-Reinet.
